Our Journey

Every year marks a new chapter of hope — expanding our reach, strengthening our purpose, and ensuring no child is left behind.

This journey begins with Taanusiya Chetty, Founder of Be.The.Change Malaysia.

Her path toward advocacy was shaped by resilience at a young age. Personal adversity taught her the value of emotional strength, compassion, and the importance of support systems. These early experiences became the foundation of a lifelong commitment to empowering others — especially children who face challenges beyond their control.

What began as personal conviction would later grow into a structured movement dedicated to inclusive education and community empowerment.

A Turning Point

At the age of 14, Taanusiya Chetty faced a life-altering tragedy that reshaped her understanding of resilience, responsibility, and emotional strength.

During a time when many are still discovering themselves, she learned the importance of support systems, dignity, and access to guidance — values that would later shape the core of Be.The.Change Malaysia.

This moment marked the beginning of a purpose-driven path.

2015
The Birth of Be.The.Change_MY

In April 2022, driven by her belief that education is more than academics, Taanusiya founded Be.The.Change_MY as a grassroots initiative focused on empowering children and youth through mentorship, education, and community engagement.

What began as small outreach efforts quickly grew into structured programs reaching underserved communities across Malaysia. Starting with small outreach efforts, workshops, and youth engagement sessions, the initiative aimed to:

Build confidence and leadership among youth

Provide educational support to underserved communities

Promote emotional empowerment alongside academic growth

2022
Expanding Beyond Classrooms

As outreach deepened, initiatives extended to:

  • Orang Asli villages
  • Coastal indigenous communities
  • Special needs centres
  • Environmental awareness programmes
  • School-based empowerment initiatives

Projects such as Project Lestari Laut introduced experiential learning models — transforming natural environments into living classrooms and ensuring that geography would not determine a child’s future.

The movement was no longer small. It was growing with intention.

2023
National Recognition & Global Alignment

In December 2024, Taanusiya Chetty was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2024/25, earning the opportunity to represent Malaysia on the international stage.

Through this recognition, Be.The.Change Malaysia aligned its initiatives with the global Miss World “Beauty With A Purpose” movement—a platform dedicated to humanitarian impact across more than 140 countries.

During this period:

  • Project Cahaya established Malaysia’s first Sekolah Dalam Hospital dedicated to Orang Asli children undergoing long-term medical treatment
  • A complete learning space was built within the hospital
  • RM15,000 in in-kind contributions were successfully mobilized
  • Outreach extended beyond Malaysia, including advocacy exposure in Cambodia

The mission evolved from local outreach to nationally recognised advocacy.

2024
Official Registration as PPIM

In 2025, Be.The.Change Malaysia entered a new phase of growth — expanding its outreach efforts while strengthening its organisational structure.

The year saw impactful initiatives across Sabah and rural communities, including:

  • Support for children undergoing cancer treatment at Likas Hospital
  • Flood relief outreach for families in Kampung Dambai
  • School-based charity initiatives at Tadika KEMAS Kg Dambai
  • Tree planting programmes at Sabah Autism Society
  • Educational talks and engagement sessions at Tawar Special Needs School

These initiatives reflected a broader commitment to:

  • Healthcare-based education support
  • Emergency community assistance
  • Special needs advocacy
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Grassroots school empowerment

In the same year, Be.The.Change Malaysia was officially registered under ROS as:

Pertubuhan Suara Perubahan Insan Murni (PPIM)

Registration No: PPM-024-10-07072025

This milestone marked the transition from advocacy platform to formally recognised NGO — reinforcing accountability, governance, and long-term sustainability.

2025 was not only about recognition — it was about deeper reach, stronger partnerships, and structured expansion.

2025
Bridging the Digital Divide

In 2026, PPIM continues expanding its impact with a strong focus on underserved coastal and rural communities.

Project Lestari Laut – Learning by the Waves

Through Project Lestari Laut, PPIM reached the indigenous children of Pulau Ketam, bringing education beyond traditional classrooms and into their natural coastal environment.

Accessible only by boat, many families in Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Dua face logistical and environmental challenges that affect school attendance and learning continuity. With the support of 40 volunteers, the initiative introduced:

  • English learning sessions
  • Fitness and confidence-building activities
  • Hygiene education
  • Marine and environmental awareness programmes

Project Lestari Laut reinforced a powerful belief:

Geography should never determine a child’s future.
